Queensland Cancer Information Design
My first endeavor into the world of infographics and data design, this infographic was made for the Visual Information Design class I took while attending QUT in Brisbane, Australia. The assignment was to create a series of digital information designs that tell a story about some issue of concern or debate surrounding the health of Queenslanders. The design could be about any health issue but had to pull data from the “The health of Queenslanders 2014, Fifth report of the Chief Health Officer Queensland”. As a class we had the opportunity to talk with, and get feedback from, staff from the Queensland State Government. The student work was also posted to Twitter in cooperation with the Queensland Government Open Data project. Design restrictions for the project included that the outcome should not exceed 1000px wide and must accurately represent data. Summed up as “Don’t Panic, But…” my design was meant to tell the story of how prostate cancer effects the men of Australia, specifically in Queensland. One of the most striking takeaways for me was how many people this cancer effects, with comparably little attention drawn to it.
